late february.

i am back in snowy, frozen wheaton now, filling my days with the following:

1) seemingly endless hours on the internet: job-searching, job-search correspondence, cover-letter writing, blog surfing, you-tube watching, bbc & ny times reading (note to self: take a serious break from the internet when this phase of life is over!).

2) thinking myself in agonizing circles regarding my continuous quest for the next thing in life.

3) absorbing myself in harry potter: almost finished with book 7!

4) cooking, trying to get my grandfather to eat more than his requested of "oh... just half of that please" of even small servings we give him --- he looks as though just a gentle breeze might blow him over; also, participating in the filling of his hot water bottle - he requests it to be refilled at least 20 times per day.

5) listening to my grandmother's stories, most of which i've heard at least 10 times prior; once in a while, i hear a new one or glean some new piece of drama or information (although i'm not so sure that these are not embellishments, added by her often imaginative memory), but she's a fabulous story teller, so i'll listen on.

5) knitting: below are two projects i just finished, one a scarf for an aunt, the other a blanket for a new little girl due to arrive soon at wazoo. kim & martin, i shouldn't spoil the surprise before i put it in the mail, but the finished products have been among the most satisfying things in my life lately, so i thought i'd post (just please don't let beatrix in on the secret!). i realize that creating beautiful things brings me contentment and joy like few other things (another note to self: always make time to create beautiful things).

6) today, i added a new activity: looking at animal shelter web sites. maybe i'll get a puppy. we'll see where i end up moving first, but its fun to look.

So beautiful. . .we won't tell Beatrix but I can hardly wait to see it. Elspeth sleeps under the one you made for her every night, and i just love it. Will Aunty K come in person to deliver it? Please! For a longer visit than one night!

"It is the creative, artistic process, not a new pair of shoes, a new wardrobe, a new couch, or a new house that helps you transcend the pain and create a new stronger life for yourself." - Amanda Ford

I can totally relate. Being creative this last year has really brought me through the frustration of feeling unproductive in other parts of my life.
